What Zab Notes is
Zab Notes is a notes app that doesn't stop at notes. You write in a full editor, then turn the thinking into a plan, with Kanban boards, mind maps, drawings, charts, a calendar and a project planner in the same place as your notes. Anything can link to anything else, so a project knows its notes, its board, its sketches and its dates.
What sets it apart
- Notes and projects in one place. Most people keep notes in one app, tasks on a board in another, sketches in a third and dates in a calendar that knows about none of them. Here they live together and link to each other, and Node Clusters draws the whole web so you can see what connects.
- Private by design. Everything you write is encrypted on your device with XChaCha20-Poly1305, under a key made from your password with Argon2id, before it reaches us. We can't read it, and there is no back door: your password and your 24-word recovery key are the only ways in. The Privacy Policy lists the few details we can see.
- Keeps working offline. Every workspace opens, edits and creates without a connection, and catches up when you're back online. A few actions, such as uploading pictures, wait for the connection.
- Rent it or own it. $10 a month, or $100 once for a license to version Z1, with later versions $10 each. Everything is included either way: no tiers and no add-ons.
- No ads, no tracking. No advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking cookies.
- Straight about its limits. Help Topics says what Zab Notes can't do yet and what each trade-off costs you, in plain words.
Who makes it
Scott Hamilton designs and builds Zab Notes at Zabulan LLC. He decides what it should do, uses it every day, and ships every change himself.
Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, is his co-developer: it writes code, tests and documentation with him, session by session, and tracks down the problems he finds.
Zabulan LLC
Zabulan LLC is an Ohio company that designs and builds websites, web applications and software, and offers marketing, for its clients at zabulan.com. Zab Notes is its own product, and "Zab" is short for Zabulan. Versions carry the Z as well: a license covers version Z1, and this release is Z1.7.1.
